Addressing Childcare Barriers
Introduction:
We explore how the lack of affordable childcare continues to limit women’s workforce
participation, especially for mothers of young children. Learn why flexible work policies
and employer-supported solutions are critical for equity and economic growth.
As we celebrate Women’s History Month, it’s essential to recognize the invaluable
contributions women make to our workforce. Despite these achievements, many still
face significant barriers, particularly in accessing affordable and reliable childcare. Since
the COVID-19 pandemic, this issue has intensified, heavily impacting mothers of young
children.
The lack of accessible childcare forces women into an unacceptable position - having to
choose between advancing their careers and fulfilling family responsibilities. The
absence of flexible work arrangements and paid family leave worsens this dilemma,
which disproportionately impacts single mothers and those in lower-wage jobs. To learn

benefits not only families but also our broader economy, creating a more equitable
future for all.
